Link & Samus Wii U Amiibo for Super Smash Bros. with FamilyGamerTV | UNBOX IT

One of the great thing about Nintendo is that it gives your family great family games that can be played their entire life. Our friends at FamilyGamerTV sent this video of the experts testing out new action figures that go with the video game Super Smash Brothers. I had to smile while I was watching this video because the game play in Super Smash Bros. is fun to play but also a great way to bring siblings together.

We Were Lucky

Our older boys were just 3 and 5 when video games moved into the livingroom from the Pizza Parlor Arcade. They grew up with Mario, Luigi, Link and Kirby. As a parent, one of our hopes for our kids was that they would grow up to be friends. The world can be a big, lonely, place but when you know you have a brother or sister out there who has your back then you can face hard times and still know that there is someone out there cheering for you.

This past New Years Eve our kids could have been anywhere. They are old enough now to buy champagne and definitely old enough to be out past midnight ringing in the New Year with their friends. But this year our kids were not just anywhere; they were home. They were home and at the stroke of midnight they were ringing in the New Year playing Super Smash Bros. One of the boys asked our daughter if she was Kirby. She responded without looking away from the screen "Uh, yeah, for the last 8 years". It was a great way to start the New Year.

Give your kid the gift of friendship

The thing that is so fun about these new (old) games is that they do have the figures that go along with the games and the kids can play together offline. They can use their own imagination and play together building off of the video game time. This is great for car trips or when you just want to balance screentime.

For our kids, time spent together playing video games has turned out to be time spent building their friendship. And that is a fantastic thing.
